This house was built by the first mayor of Carlisle, Robert Nicholson. Since Carlisle was established in 1851 I would assume that the house was built around that time but could have been built later. I am not sure how long he was mayor. It is located on the corner of 2nd and Main. Mr Nicholson owned the local flouring mill. It burned down in the 1880s. His granddaughter Mary Adams left money in her estate to fund an historical facility. CAHS used those funds to purchase The Randleman House.

I have an old photograph of this house among my Metz/Bennett papers. My great grandfather, George Davis Metz (1862-1941) lived on Main Street, Carlisle from about 1915 to 1925.
Could you please tell the history of this house, such as location, owners, year built, etc. I can also email you a scan of my photograph if you give me an email address.
Thank you
Gail
